‘Dad’ confesses to murdering his three young children, shooting his wife in the head: Police

A Texas man who officials said confessed to murdering his three children and the shooting of his wife was apprehended Thursday night.

Texas City police took 27-year-old Junaid Hashim Mehmood into custody on an unrelated warrant after he “called 911 to turn himself in,” KHOU reported, citing authorities. He was reportedly arrested “near the Panera Bread on El Dorado Boulevard near the Gulf Freeway.” The arrest came just after 10:30 p.m., officials said.

According to a press release posted to the police department’s Facebook page, officers responded to a welfare check “at the Point Ann Apartments, located at 1225 10th Street North” yesterday evening at about 6:15 p.m. Upon arrival, officials discovered three children, including a 5-year-old, a 2-year-old, and an infant, deceased upon arrival. An adult female suffered a gunshot wound to the head, and was taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston to be treated for her injuries. She was “listed in stable condition” at the time of reporting, officials said.

Authorities previously deemed Mehmood as “a person of interest” in the children’s slayings, and the shooting of the female victim. He wasn’t formally charged in the case at the time of reporting. An update is expected Friday morning, according to the department.

A search warrant was issued Thursday night for the apartment where the crimes took place, police told the news outlet. Several other agencies are involved in the investigation, including the Texas Rangers and the Houston Police Department.

A probe into the purported murders and shooting is ongoing. CrimeOnline will provide updates as information becomes available.
