Lady Gaga defends Kesha against Dr. Luke in newly released deposition from defamation lawsuit

Lady Gaga reportedly shot back at Dr. Luke’s lawyer who alleged that Kesha’s rape allegations damaged the music producer’s career.

During the September 2017 deposition, Gaga reportedly also told Dr. Luke’s attorney, Christine Lepera, that she “should be ashamed” for suggesting that Kesha fabricated her story. Gaga claimed she had “factual knowledge” of the depression Kesha suffered after she was drugged and sexually assaulted, according to BuzzFeed.

She said, “I have factual knowledge of the spiral that I watched that girl go down. I have factual knowledge of trauma. I am informed and intelligent about this issue. That girl has experienced serious trauma and she is in the middle of it right now. And you are all a party to it.”

Kesha sued Dr. Luke in 2014 for raping and abusing her but dropped the lawsuit in August 2016. Dr. Luke then counter-sued her, alleging breach of contract and defamation.

Rolling Stone reported that Gaga was subpoenaed and deposed after a text message surfaced where Kesha revealed to her that she was raped by the music producer.

Gaga reportedly cried at the onset of her two-and-a-half hour deposition, leading her lawyer to explain that the situation was triggering her PTSD from being raped at age 19.

“That doesn’t mean she is unable to testify truthfully and competently,” her attorney said, according to Page Six.

According to Gaga, Kesha told her that Dr. Luke “used power and manipulation to control her” and that the producer gave her a “happy pill” and that she woke up not remembering what happened. Kesha reportedly also claimed he forced her to take drugs and sexually assaulted her.

Gaga went on to say that she believed Kesha as she recalled seeing the “young” singer on a bed at Dr. Luke’s studio, only wearing her underwear.

BuzzFeed reported that Kesha and Dr. Luke are still mired in a legal battle that’s scheduled to go to trial later this year.

Dr. Luke’s lawyers weighed in on Lady Gaga’s allegations in a statement issued to Rolling Stone. It reads:

“Being passionate about a topic that concerns us all is admirable. However, Lady Gaga has no knowledge of what happened on the night at issue because she was not there. The actual evidence shows, among other things: Kesha got kicked out of a party after drinking too much and vomiting. As an act of kindness, Dr. Luke offered to allow her to sleep in his hotel suite, a few blocks away. Kesha slept on the bed in the hotel suite, while Dr. Luke separately slept on the couch. Dr. Luke testified under oath that he did not have any contact with Kesha. Kesha herself admitted under oath that she has absolutely no memory of Dr. Luke even being in the hotel room. Kesha has no memory of Dr. Luke engaging in inappropriate contact with her because it did not happen.”
