MISSING! 9-year-old girl left children’s home into freezing temps

Police in South Dakota are asking for the public’s help in locating a 9-year-old girl who was reportedly last seen leaving a Rapid City children’s home Sunday morning.

The Rapid City Journal reports that Serenity Dennard, 9, has been missing from the Children’s Home Society on South Rockerville Road since 11:30 a.m. Sunday. According to their website, the Children’s Home Society of South Dakota provides emergency shelter and support for child abuse victims.

Details regarding her disappearance are scarce, though authorities noted that Dennard is from Sturgis and might be attempting to locate family, according to the Journal.

Authorities described Dennard as being 4 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 90 pounds, and having shoulder-length dirty blonde hair. She was reportedly last seen wearing a long-sleeved grey shirt with flowers, blue jeans, and snow boots.

Local police and firefighters were reportedly spotted using at least three dogs to search Highway 16 and Rockerville Sunday evening. Authorities are especially concerned due to freezing temperatures combined with the light clothing Dennard was seen wearing before her disappearance, according to the Argus Leader.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information regarding Serenity Dennard’s whereabouts is urged to call the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office at 605-394-6115.
