A giggle nearly derailed a plea deal for a Tennessee man who admitted to putting his testicles in a container of salsa that was delivered to a customer who tipped 89 cents.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reported that Howard Matthew Webb, 31, pleaded guilty Tuesday to misdemeanor assault/offensive touching. He originally faced felony adulteration of food, liquids or pharmaceuticals.
Webb reportedly put his plea deal in jeopardy after laughing while entering his guilty plea.
“What are you laughing about, Mr. Webb?” Blount County General Sessions Court Judge Robert Headrick boomed. “There is nothing about this situation I find cute or funny.
“It’s abhorrent!”
Headrick then sentenced Webb to a six-month suspended sentence of probation. He was also ordered to spend 30 days in jail but was credited for the 21 days he spent behind bars since his arrest last month, according to the News Sentinel.
Webb was arrested after a video surfaced on social media showing him tampering with a customer’s salsa after the customer reportedly gave him a low tip.
During the 14-second video, Webb’s seen sitting placing his testicles in the container and commenting on how it feels.
“This is what you get when you give an 89-cents tip for an almost 30-minute drive,” a woman who’s apparently filming the ordeal from the driver’s seat says while giggling.
Reports indicated that Webb didn’t work for Dinner Delivered. However, the company confirmed to the Knoxville Patch that the female driver, an independent contractor, was fired after the incident came to light.
The News Sentinel reported that Webb was accompanying the female driver—who hasn’t been charged in connection with the food tampering ordeal. However, Maryville police confirmed to the outlet that the case remains under investigation.
Webb was also ordered to attend 90 drug and alcohol counseling sessions within the next 90 days and must pay a $10 fine plus court costs. He’s also barred from contacting the customer whose food he desecrated.
