DEVELOPING: Parents questioned after 1-month-old son reportedly dies of traumatic head injuries

The death of a 1-month-old New York boy is being investigated as a possible case of child abuse as authorities revealed that the newborn suffered head injuries.

According to WABC, Aiden Rodriguez was rushed to the hospital with head trauma at around midnight Monday and succumbed to his injuries a short time later. Police confirmed in a statement they’re treating his death as a “possible child abuse incident”—with sources telling WPIX that the newborn sustained skull fractures.

The New York Daily News reported that hospital staff suspected child abuse was at play and contacted authorities. Officers reportedly questioned Rodriguez’s parents early Tuesday. The New York Post didn’t identify Rodriguez’s parents but described them as being in their 20s.

WNBC reported that another child was taken from the Bronx apartment and placed into the custody of the Administration for Children’s Services. No arrests have been made in this case; an autopsy will be performed to determine a cause and manner of death.

“Our top priority is protecting the safety and wellbeing of all children in New York City,” the agency said in a statement. “We are investigating this case and we have taken action to secure the safety of the other child in this home.”
