Mummified human body missing arms, legs, and head found in basement during home renovations: Police

Homicide detectives in Michigan are investigating the discovery of a partially-mummified human torso in a residential basement on Wednesday.

According to WJBK, the body was unearthed at a Detroit home while renovations were being done. The corpse was described as being small and missing its head, legs, and arms.

The body has been sent to the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office for examination. The gender of the deceased person and the cause of death is not yet known.

Detroit police told WDIV that the homeowner purchased the house two years ago as an investment property and nobody has lived there since.

“At this time, it’s been significantly decomposed,” Detroit police Commander Brian Mounsey said. “It’s been there for quite some time.”
