Authorities in Georgia are investigating after a grocery store employee was reportedly found dead Saturday in a walk-in freezer.
According to the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, Larry Alvin Long II, 51, was found dead at a Piggly Wiggly in Columbus. Long reportedly walked into the freezer at 10:13 a.m. and was found dead less than an hour later.
Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan pronounced Long dead at 11:50 a.m. Because he died at work, his body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in Atlanta for an autopsy, Bryan said.
Despite this, Long is believed to have died of cardiac arrest and foul play isn’t suspected in his death, according to WTVM.
The Piggly Wiggly Corporation provided the news station with the following statement:
“We are heartbroken by the loss of a longtime employee and friend. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family. We ask that everyone please show his family the respect and comfort that they deserve.”
