Death toll rising after drive-by mass shooting in West Texas

Authorities have confirmed that seven people were killed, in addition to the gunman, in Saturday’s mass shooting in Texas.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, police pulled over the suspect in a traffic stop in Midland on Saturday afternoon, before he shot at officers with a rifle in his vehicle and sped off in the direction of Odessa, shooting civilians as he drove. At one point, the gunman left the gold Honda he was driving and stole a United States Postal Service vehicle. He was later apprehended in a parking lot in a movie theater in Odessa, where he exchanged gunfire with police before he was killed.

CNN reports that seven victims are confirmed dead, an increase from earlier reports that five people were killed. Nearly two dozen others were injured, including a 17-month-old girl.

Authorities have not yet identified the suspect, saying only that he was a white male in his thirties.

CrimeOnline will provide further updates when more information is available.
