DEVELOPING: Delaware police investigate remains of child found near softball fields

Police in Delaware are investigating remains, believed to be of a child under 10 years old, found near a girls Little League Softball field, the Smyrna Police posted on Facebook.

Investigators responded to the Little Lass fields in Smyrna, across the street from Smyrna Middle School, late Friday and were still at the scene Saturday afternoon, Delaware Online reported.

WPVI in Philadelphia reported that the Delaware Attorney General’s Office, the office of the Chief Medical Examiner and members of the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office were also investigating.

“At this preliminary stage, it is believed that the located remains are that of someone less than 10 years old,” Cpl Brian Donner said, according to the Smyrna-Clayton Sun-Times. “A police presence remains in the area collecting any and all evidence. As this is an active investigation, some details will be withheld to preserve the integrity of the case.”
