Group of girls try to expose online predator in sting operation — then one of them is kidnapped: Police

A California man is facing kidnapping charges after he allegedly drove off with a 17-year-old girl who reportedly tried to expose him for soliciting minors for sex online.

KNSD reports that the 17-year-old and her friends arrived at a shopping center on Sunday afternoon as part of an amateur sting operation targeting Robert Dreyfus, 32. Once there, police said Dreyfus persuaded the 17-year-old girl to get into his car to talk before taking off.

The teen reportedly managed to text her friends and call 911. Deputies reportedly called Dreyfus on his cell phone, prompting him to pull over his car and flee on foot, according to the news station.

Deputies reportedly rescued the girl, who was unharmed. Dreyfus was eventually taken into custody on charges of suspected kidnapping, sending harmful matter to a minor, and communicating with a minor with the intent to commit a further offense.

Officers reportedly said that the girls planned to expose Dreyfus and turn the information over to law enforcement. Dreyfus, who is out on bail, is due to appear in court on October 15.
