Mom didn’t seek help when toddler son’s feeding tube malfunctioned; she’s charged with murder

A South Carolina mother has been charged with homicide by child abuse and/or neglect in the death of her 2-year-old son earlier this month, WBTW reported.

The station said Okedia Colvin of Dillon failed to care for her son properly following a tracheostomy, citing a warrant issued for her arrest. The warrant says she failed to seek medical attention when the boy’s feeding tube malfunctioned.

The boy died on November 7.

According to WBMF, the warrant said Colvin showed “extreme indifference to human life,” leading to her son’s death.

Colvin is being held in the Dillon County Detention Center. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is handling the case, and Public Information Officer Tommy Crosby said more information would be released on Monday.

If convicted, Colvin could be sentence to 20 years to life in prison.
