WATCH: Performance artist eats $120K banana

Performance artist David Datuna ate a banana on film, and not just any banana.

No, the New York-based artist walked into the Art Basel gallery in Miami and ate a banana that just sold for $120,000. Gallery workers seemed a little confused, TMZ reported.

Artist Maurizio Cattelan put the banana on the wall and sold it to a French collector. Datuna posted the video of his snack on Instagram.

He called it “Hungry Artist.”

Whether Datuna will face charges remains to be seen. TMZ reported that the French collector owns the “idea” of the piece whether the actual banana is present or not. In fact, it’s periodically replaced when it gets a little too old to stay put.

By the way, Datuna said it was “delicious.” And TMZ said it was promptly replaced on the wall.
