Firefighters save Christmas tree & presents while putting out house fire

Firefighters in Florida not only managed to extinguish a two-story house fire on Saturday, but also saved the residents’ Christmas tree and presents in the process.

Polk County firefighters who responded to a fire at a Mulberry home were told by dispatch that a 13-year-old girl evacuated the home and verified that no other residents or pets were inside. Polk County Fire Rescue wrote in a Facebook post that crews kept the blaze restricted to the second-floor before deciding to retrieve the family’s Christmas gifts from inside the home to ensure they were not damaged.

“One of the crews inside the structure, which was still in full bunker gear, handed the family’s Christmas gifts and Christmas tree to the crews outside. All of the family’s gifts and tree were able to be retrieved undamaged,” the fire department wrote.

Authorities are reportedly working to ascertain the cause and origin of the fire.  The fire department said it did not appear suspicious, noting that the 13-year-old girl was on the first floor when the fire started a floor above her.
