Supermarket forced to toss out $35,000 of food woman coughed on in ‘twisted’ coronavirus prank: Reports

A Pennsylvania supermarket was reportedly forced to throw out $35,000 worth of food after a woman intentionally coughed all over fresh produce and meats.

Hanover Township police said in a Facebook post that the woman will be arraigned for intentionally contaminating food at Gerrity’s Supermarket on Wednesday. Police also wrote that she will undergo a mental health evaluation at a hospital.

Gerrity’s Supermarket co-owner Joe Fasula wrote in a Facebook post that a woman “who the police know to be a chronic problem in the community” coughed on items in their fresh produce, bakery, and meat sections. Fasula revealed that they tossed out approximately $35,000 worth of food due to the “twisted prank.”

“Working closely with the Hanover Township health inspector, we identified every area that she was in, we disposed of the product and thoroughly cleaned and disinfected everything,” Fasula wrote.

Workers reportedly immediately removed the woman from the store and contacted law enforcement. Fasula said that 15 employees were involved in Wednesday’s cleanup efforts.

Officials haven’t disclosed the woman’s identity.
