Newborn girl found dead on beach with umbilical cord attached, police looking for mother

Authorities in Australia are investigating after a passerby discovered a deceased newborn girl on a beach on Wednesday.

Victoria police said in a statement that testing uncovered that the baby was left on Seaford Beach in Melbourne sometime on Monday. She reportedly had her placenta and umbilical cord still attached.

It’s currently unclear how the newborn died and if she had any injuries. Police said they’re focused on finding the baby’s mother as they have serious concerns for her health and welfare.
