Cops arrest Florida woman who intentionally coughed in cancer patient’s face at Pier 1: Reports

A Florida woman was arrested on misdemeanor assault charges Saturday for allegedly coughing in a cancer patient’s face weeks earlier.

On June 23, Heather Sprague reportedly filmed an encounter with Debra Hunter, 52, inside a Pier 1 Imports in Jacksonville. Sprague reportedly spotted Hunter verbally abusing store staff over an item she wanted to return but didn’t have in her possession.

Sprague was standing several feet away from Hunter when Hunter flips her off. Hunter’s heard saying, “I think I’ll get really close to you and cough on you then, how’s that?”

Hunter then approaches Sprague and does just that.

After coughing on Sprague, Hunter exits the Pier 1 with two children in tow.

Sprague said in a Facebook post that she’s a brain tumor patient who’s undergoing treatment at the Mayo Clinic. Sprague, who was wearing a mask at the time, reportedly told police she’s immunocompromised and felt unwell in the days following the incident.

WJXT reported that Hunter was released from jail the same day of her arrest without posting bail. Her arraignment is scheduled for August 19.
