Estranged dad, under investigation for child abuse, kills wife and daughter, then himself

A Tennessee mom and her 17-year-old daughter were found dead on Saturday alongside her estranged husband, who apparently shot himself after killing them.

According to the Bristol Tennessee Police Department, Michael Robinson, 47, was under investigation for child abuse, the Bristol Herald Courier said.

Bristol police found the bodies of Kristina Robinson, 36, her daughter, and Michael Robinson when they investigated a report of shots fired shortly before 7 a.m.

“[Michael Robinson] appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” police said in a statement, according to the Herald Courier. “A rifle was found with his body, and it appeared to be the weapon used during this incident.”

The statement said that a grand jury had recently issued an arrest order for Robinson “charging him with several counts in relation” to the child abuse investigation. The warrant had been sent to Russell County, Virginia, where he was living, and was supposed to have been served on Thursday.

It was not clear if the child abuse charges were related to the 17-year-old.

The bodies are being autopsied at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City.
