Hit-and-run claims life of 6-year-old boy walking alone at 2:30 a.m.

A 6-year-old South Carolina boy was killed early Sunday morning when he was hit by a car while he was walking alone along an east Columbia road.

Kayden Valdez was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead, The State reported. An autopsy revealed he died from multiple trauma from the collision.

The incident happened at about 2:30 a.m., Columbia police said, and they are still investigating why the boy was walking alone at that time.

The vehicle that hit Valdez was described as a dark-colored sedan. After the collision, the driver left the scene.

Police are checking surveillance cameras in the area to see if they captured anything to help with the investigation.
