Fight over political sign leaves Washington state woman dead

A 55-year-old Washington state woman and her husband are in jail after a shooting over the alleged theft of a political sign left another woman dead, the Skagit Valley Herald reports.

Skagit County Sheriff’s deputies came to the home in Big Lake late Saturday afternoon after being called to investigate a fight. A second call to the same location came in minutes later, from someone who said his friend had been shot.

When deputies arrived, they found a 32-year-old woman dead in the driveway. That woman was from Arlington, Washington, about 20 miles south of Big Lake.

The woman who lives in the house and her 58-year-old husband came out to speak with deputies, who determined that the couple and the dead woman didn’t know each other and that the fight began over the alleged theft.

By Sunday morning, the 55-year-old woman had been arrested for investigation of second-degree murder, while her husband was arrested for investigation of fourth-degree assault, the Herald said.

The names of the victim and the suspects have not been released.
