WATCH LIVE: Derek Chauvin murder trial, Day 7

Court proceedings will continue in Minneapolis Tuesday in the murder trial of Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer accused of killing George Floyd last May.

As CrimeOnline reported, the doctor who pronounced Floyd dead after his arrival to an emergency room testified on Monday hat he believes oxygen deficiency or “asphyxia” caused Floyd’s death—not a heart attack or drug overdose.

During Floyd’s arrest on suspicion of using a counterfeit bill at a grocery store, Chauvin knelt on his neck for over eight minutes, continuing after Floyd appeared to have lost consciousness.

As the New York Times reports, Minneapolis Police Chief  Medaria Arradondo testified that Chauvin violated department policies by pressing his knee against Floyd’s neck as Floyd showed clear signs of distress.

“Once Mr. Floyd had stopped resisting, and certainly once he was in distress and trying to verbalize that, that should have stopped,” Arradondo said.
