WATCH LIVE: Derek Chauvin murder trial, Day 13

Witness testimony will continue on Wednesday in the murder trial for former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, accused of killing George Floyd in May 2020.

As previously reported, the defense began calling witnesses on Tuesday. Barry Brodd, a use-of-force expert with a background in policing, said on the stand that Floyd was not sufficiently compliant as officers were attempting to take him into custody on suspicion of using a counterfeit bill at a grocery store. As police body cam footage has shown, Chauvin pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck for several minutes, continuing after Floyd lost consciousness.

“His arm position… a compliant person would have both hands in the small of their back and just be resting comfortably,” Brodd said during cross examination.

Chauvin has pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

Court proceedings are expected to begin at 9:30 CDT (10:30 ET).
