6-year-old girl in critical condition after Pittsburgh shooting

A 6-year-old girl was rushed to a Pittsburgh hospital in critical condition Thursday after she was shot in the abdomen.

The Pittsburgh Public Safety Department said that officers were initially alerted by ShotSpotter to gunfire on Lawndale Street at about 6:20 p.m. and then a 911 call about a child shot a few blocks away on Frankstown Avenue and North Homewood Avenue in the Homewood neighborhood.

When they arrived, they found the girl in an SUV with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. An adult driving the vehicle was uninjured.

She was taken to Children’s Hospital, police said.

Crime scene investigators processed the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
