DEVELOPING: Britney Spears’ Dad Will Step Down as Her Conservator

Britney Spears’ father has agreed to step down as the conservator of her multimillion-dollar estate, according to reports.

According to TMZ, Jamie Spears’ lawyer wrote in a recent filing: “There are, in fact, no actual grounds for suspending or removing Mr. Spears as the Conservator of the Estate … and it is highly debatable whether a change in conservator at this time would be in Ms. Spears’ best interests.”

The filing also said that Jamie Spears has been targeted by “unjustified attacks,” but he believes the widespread dispute with his daughter about his conservatorship role is not in her best interests.

“So, even though he must contest this unjustified Petition for his removal, Mr. Spears intends to work with the Court and his daughter’s new attorney to prepare for an orderly transition to a new conservator,” the document continued, per TMZ.

Britney Spears’ father became her conservator in 2008. The singer initially credited the arrangement with saving her career, but she started publicly challenging the arrangement last August.

In 2019, Britney Spears abruptly ended her Las Vegas residency and checked into a mental health facility. Since then, she has alleged she was admitted into the facility against her will — a claim her father has denied.

During a June 23 hearing, Britney Spears asked the court to remove her father as a conservator and to end the conservatorship without subjecting her to an evaluation. Her petition also requested the matter be resolved in a swift manner.

The 39-year-old singer has called the ongoing conservatorship “abusive,” revealing in court documents that she wants to marry her boyfriend and have children, but the court-mandated arrangement has prevented her from getting a doctor’s appointment to get an IUD removed.

News of Jamie Spears’ resigning as conservator comes weeks after the Bessemer Trust asked to withdraw from an arrangement that would assign them as a co-conservator of Britney Spears’ $58 million estate. Reports indicated that with the financial fiduciary out of the way, Jamie Spears’ would become the sole conservator of his daughter’s estate.
