15-Year-Old Fatally Shoots His 11-Year-Old Sister, Parents Call It An ‘Accident’: Reports

A 15-year-old Wisconsin boy was arrested for allegedly fatally shooting his 11-year-old sister on Tuesday.

Fitchburg police said David Schenk was booked into jail on a tentative charge of first-degree reckless homicide. However, police have not yet provided information about the shooting which killed the teen’s sister, Carolanah Schenk. The Wisconsin State Journal reported that a criminal complaint had not been filed as of Thursday.

The siblings’ parents called Tuesday’s fatal shooting an “accident” in a statement issued to the State-Journal.

“Our attention is now being focused on coordinating our daughter’s funeral while at the same time praying that our son is represented and supported,” the parents said. “This has been a horrific few days for our family and our goal is to get our son the legal support he needs as this accident has taken an emotional toll on all of us.”

WMTV reported that Fitchburg police and the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating the incident.
