Truck Drivers Unloading Fuel Find Missing Man’s Body in Gas Tanker, 2 Suspects Arrested: Reports

Two men were charged on Tuesday in connection with the death of an Illinois man who was found dead in a gas tanker in June.

KPLR reported that Billy Roof III, 33, and Ryan Murrow, 37, are charged with unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle and unlawful concealment of a death, while Roof was also charged with unlawful use of account numbers.

Authorities have not revealed how exactly their arrests are related to the death of Garrett Meyer, 29, whose body was found in a gas tanker near Buckley on June 4. KPLR reported that two men were offloading fuel from a truck at the station when they opened an entry point into the tanker and made the grisly discovery.

An Iroquois County Coroner’s report stated that Meyer had lethal levels of amphetamines and fentanyl in his system and a blood-alcohol level of .181. His death has been ruled an overdose, according to WCIA.

Roof and Murrow remain jailed without bond. It is unclear how they are linked to the deceased man.
