‘Severity of the Injuries’ Leads to Manslaughter Charge for Dad After Infant Dies from ‘Fall’

A Connecticut father has been charged with manslaughter and risk of injury to a minor following the death of his infant.

West Hartford police arrived at a home at about 11:30 p.m. Friday night on a medical emergency call, the Hartford Courant reported. Upon arrival, they were told that an infant had fallen while under the care a parent.

The child was taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, and the baby was pronounced dead on Saturday.

“Due to the severity of the injuries” suffered by the child, police said they launched an investigation. At the conclusion of the investigation, they arrested the baby’s father, 34-year-old Grant McAuslan.

Investigators did not discussion the results of their investigation and did not say if they believe something other than a fall caused the infant’s fatal injuries.

McAuslan is being held on a $1.25 million bond.
