Fugitive Casey White Planned to Stage Shootout With Police, But Wreck Stopped Him: Officials

Captured Alabama murder suspect Casey White allegedly planned to stage a shootout with Indiana police who pursued him and corrections officer Vicky White, who fatally shot herself as officers closed in.

According to CNN, Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding said Casey White was going to shoot at officers had they not forced his car into a ditch. Once wrecked, passenger Vicky White, Lauderdale County Assistant Director of Corrections, allegedly shot herself in the head.

Casey White was taken into custody on Monday, while Vicky White succumbed to her injuries a short time later.

“We got Casey White out (the car and he) immediately announced that his wife had shot herself in the head and that he didn’t do it,” Northern District of Alabama U.S. Marshal Marty Keely told CNN.

Meanwhile, Wedding alleged that Casey White was going to shoot at police “at the stake of both of them losing their lives.”

AL.com reported that the pair arrived in Indiana six days earlier and they planned to stay at an Evansville motel. They were eventually spotted at the car wash with an F-150, but Wedding alleged they stole the Cadillac involved in Monday’s wreck.

Following the crash, police reportedly discovered $29,000 in cash, four handguns, and an AR-15 rifle.

On Tuesday, Casey White waived his right to an extradition hearing, stating, “I want to go back to Alabama.”

The capital murder suspect is reportedly cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
