Teen Mom Allegedly Threw Newborn Out of Fifth-Floor Window, Now Charged with Murder

A teen mom in New York City is facing a murder charge after she allegedly killed her newborn baby by tossing him out of a fifth-floor window, WNBC-TV reports.

The 17-year-old mother is accused of throwing the 1-day-old boy out of a window at her Bronx apartment at East 158th Street in the Mott Haven neighborhood, according to the television station.

Police arrested the mother on Thursday, but the incident occurred on October 24, 2021. Around 3 p.m. that day, Lincoln Medical Center staff called authorities to report that the teen had admitted to giving birth inside her apartment and throwing the baby out of a window.

Officers initially went to the hospital to investigate and then rushed to the apartment, where they searched the area and located the baby’s body inside a flower bed at the front of the building. The child was neither conscious nor responsive and was later pronounced dead by medics, according to the television station.

The mother faces charges of murder and manslaughter, WNBC-TV reports. Authorities have not explained why she was not charged earlier.

In April, the city’s Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death a homicide. At the time, investigators said “the female had discarded the newborn out of her 5th floor apartment window, into a flowerbed in the front of the building,” according to WPIX-TV. The mother was not arrested then either, according to the television station.

Authorities have not released the mother’s name because she is a minor.
