Firefighter’s Wife Charged With His Shooting Death

A North Carolina firefighter’s wife has been charged with his murder.

Randolph County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a “self-inflicted” gunshot wound on Saturday and found Mishael “MJ” James Auman suffering from a gunshot wound, WXII reported.

Auman was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

After an investigation, deputies on Wednesday arrested 37-year-old Heather Hicks Auman, MJ Auman’s wife, and charged her with first degree murder.

Auman served as a firefighter for 21 years, according to Randolph County Fire Marshal Erik Beard, who heaped praise upon Auman for his “infectious smile, outgoing personality and willingness to serve others.”

Investigators didn’t reveal a motive for the shooting. Heather Auman was denied bond and is due back in court on July 1.
