Boyfriend Murders Pregnant Girlfriend, Then Throws Her 2-year-old Tot Son off Bridge

On Thursday, a Louisiana man was indicted for murdering his pregnant girlfriend and her 2-year-old son in March.

According to The Advocate, Brynnen Murphy, 20, told Baton Rouge police that Kaylen Johnson, 24, picked him up on March 5, and her son, Kaden Johnson, was in the back seat. After driving for a bit, the pair got into an argument before Murphy shot and killed his girlfriend, police said.

Murphy allegedly stashed Kaylen’s body in a trash bag and discarded it in a drainage ditch, where it was found on March 14. Kaden was still in the back seat when Murphy drove Kaylen’s car to a bridge at Central Thruway and threw him off a bridge over a bayou, according to reports.

Sources previously told WBRZ that Murphy heard the toddler crying as he fled the scene. The boy is believed to have died from exposure to the elements, not from being thrown off the bridge.

The mother and son were reported missing on March 11. On March 14, Murphy turned himself in and led cops to their bodies, according to The Advocate.

Murphy is not the slain toddler’s father. Kaylen was reportedly six months pregnant with Murphy’s baby at the time of her murder.

Reports indicated that Murphy ditched the gun near where he left his girlfriend’s body. Murphy allegedly abandoned his girlfriend’s’s car near his apartment.

Murphy is charged with first-degree murder and first-degree feticide. WBRZ reported that he was moved from East Baton Rouge jail to West Baton Rouge jail for his own protection.
