Johnny Depp Ex-lover Claims ‘World of violence’ Surrounds Actor

Johnny Depp won his defamation lawsuit against former wife Amber Heard, but Depp continues to be dogged by allegations of violent and boorish behavior, the Daily Mail reports.

The news outlet has obtained a previously sealed transcript of a deposition from Ellen Barkin, Depp’s former lover, who allegedly said that a “world of violence” encircled Depp and that he would routinely mock or demean people he perceived were beneath him, such as calling an assistant a “pig.”

Barkin, 68, testified that she had a sexual relationship with Depp in the 1990s. When asked if Depp was charming, Barkin responded in the deposition that “most abusers are,” according to the Daily Mail.

“I meant the big umbrella term of abusers,” Barkin added, according to the news outlet.

Barkin also allegedly said that the first time she had Depp had sex, Depp “gave me a Quaalude and asked me if I wanted to f****” the Daily Mail reports.

The actress alleged that Depp was often intoxicated from alcohol and other substances, including “cocaine, marijuana and hallucinogenic drugs,” Barkin told lawyers, according to the Daily Mail.

“He was drunk all the, most, a lot of the time,” Barkin said in the deposition, the news outlet reports. “He was always drinking or smoking a joint.”

The pair were close for about 10 years and starred together in the movie “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.” But Barkin broke things off after Depp threw a wine bottle at her in a hotel room.

Jurors were shown some clips of the deposition, but the full transcript had been under seal and not accessible publicly until this week.

Barkin said she was not surprised Depp threw the wine bottle at her, telling lawyers that “there was always an air of violence around him,” according to the Daily Mail.

“He’s a yeller, he is verbally abusive. And those things you can see,” Barkin allegedly said during the deposition, the news outlet reports.

Barkin said that Depp would yell at his assistant and people on film sets who he viewed as beneath him. He would also get jealous.

“He’s just a jealous man, controlling, ‘where are you going, who are you going with. What did you do last night?’ I had a scratch on my back once that got him very, very angry because he he insisted it came from having sex with a person who wasn’t him,” Barkin said in the deposition, according to the Daily Mail.

Jurors in June awarded Depp $15 million in damages, which the court reduced to $10.35 million to comply with damages limitations in Virginia law. The jury also awarded Heard $2 million in damages for her countersuit.

Heard has filed notice that she intends to appeal the verdict.
