Anne Heche Dies a Week After Fiery Car Crash That Left Her in Coma

Actress Anne Heche reportedly died on Friday, a week after she drove her car into a home in California.

Heche’s rep. told TMZ that machines are keeping her heart beating for organ donation but she has no brain function. In California, brain death deems someone legally deceased.

Heche, 53, was hospitalized in Los Angeles. The actress was in a coma when she was admitted and she never regained consciousness, according to TMZ.

On August 5, Heche reportedly drove her car into a Mar Vista home which then caught on fire. Law enforcement sources told The Los Angeles Times that an initial blood test was positive for cocaine. Police reportedly intended to conduct a second blood test to confirm whether hospital treatments led to Heche testing positive for narcotics.

By Thursday, Heche’s camp announced the actress had suffered “a severe anoxic brain injury” and was not expected to survive. She was taken off of life support shortly thereafter, according to reports.
