‘Lifeless, Underdeveloped’ Newborn Found Dead in Georgia Creek

A newborn was found dead Tuesday afternoon in a far north Georgia creek.

The Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office says the infant was lying face down at the edge of South Chickamauga Creek, with the umbilical cord and placenta still attached, near the Graysville canoe launch area.

Deputies described the infant as “lifeless” and “underdeveloped” and said they believe the baby was brought to the location sometime before 1 p.m.

Law enforcement wants to find the mother.

“We know that someone is going through a very tragic time in their life, and we want to help,” Catoosa County Sheriff Gary Sisk said. “If you saw something at the Graysville Canoe launch before 1:00 p.m. this date, such as a vehicle or persons in the area, or if you know someone who was pregnant and is now without their baby, please give us a call.”

The county coroner is conducting an autopsy. Sisk asked anyone with information to call Catoosa County Detective Brittany Gilleland at (706) 935-2424.
