Missing 6-Year-Old Girl With Autism Is Found Dead in Canal Behind Home

A 6-year-old Florida girl was found dead on Tuesday, two hours after disappearing from home.

According to WPTV, Aleenah Fenelus’ body was discovered in a canal behind her apartment complex in West Palm Beach. Neighbors reportedly overheard Fenelus’ mother calling out for her daughter before her body was found.

Fenelus was autistic and nonverbal. Her mother told WPTV that her daughter, who vanished at bath time, had never taken off prior to Tuesday’s incident.

“I went to get her PJs. By the time I put her PJs on the bed, she vanished. I looked all over the house. She wasn’t there. So I checked the back and I noticed she pushed the door open and left the house,” she said.

An investigation is ongoing.
