Human Remains Found 2 Miles From Missing Lyft Driver’s Last Known Location

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken the lead on the investigation of human remains found in Okeechobee County, just two miles from a missing Lyft driver’s last known location.

On Thursday, police in North Carolina arrested a man who led them on a high-speed chase in the Lyft driver’s car, as CrimeOnline previously reported. Matthew Scott Flores, 35, was wanted on a murder charge in Hardee County, Florida, officials said.

Family members reported 74-year-old Gary Levin missing on Tuesday. Levin reportedly dropped a passenger off in Okeechobee County on Monday, and officials told WPEC that Levin’s phone last pinged just two miles from where the remains were found Saturday morning, in a wooded area near the Okeechobee County Agri-Civic Center.

The Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office determined the body was male but could not determine an age or identify.

FDLE said the remains were sent to the state medical examiner, who is expected to release autopsy results and an identification early next week.
