Tennessee Woman Shot Dead in Living Room, Boyfriend Arrested in Kentucky

A Tennessee woman was found shot to death in her Murfreesboro apartment Wednesday night, and her boyfriend has been arrested in Kentucky charged with her murder.

Murfreesboro Police said that a preliminary investigation indicates that Rebecca Stockton, 25, and Shaleem Hamilton, 41, may have argued on Wednesday night, WKRN reported. Neighbors reported hearing gunshots, police said.

Police arrived on the scene at about 9:30 p.m. and found Stockton dead in the living room.

Detectives later called police in Corbin, Kentucky, and told them they’d pinged Hamilton’s cell phone at a Speedway gas station there, WYMT said. Officers went to the station and found him, taking him into custody after a brief struggle.

Investigators said they found a handgun matching the one used in the Murfreesboro murder and other pieces of evidence. Corbin police charged jim with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and possession of a defaced firearm.

He’s being held on in Kentucky until he can be extradited to Rutherford County.
