A Detroit man has been charged with murder in the death of his friend’s 1-year-old daughter last year.

Police say LeRoy Metoyer III, 37, was carrying for Justice Starks on November 29, 2022, when he assaulted her. Medical personnel were called to the scene and transported the girl to a nearby hospital, where she died two days later, according to WDIV.

The little girl died just four weeks before her 2nd birthday.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be multiple blunt force traumas to the head.

Metoyer was arraigned on Saturday on one count of murder and one count of first degree child abuse and remanded to jail.

A probable cause conference is scheduled for March 13 and a preliminary hearing on March 20, when more information will be released.
