Infant Found Dead in Wisconsin Field

Wisconsin police are seeking information after a dead baby was found in a field in Whitewater, a city about 50 miles west of Milwaukee.

Whitewater Police and emergency medical personnel were called to the scene shortly after 11 a.m. on Saturday, WISN reports.

Investigators have not said how old the infant was or commented on the cause of death.

They asked that anyone with information contact them at 262-473-0555 option #4, or email the Detective Bureau directly at jbrock@whitewater-wi.gov (Det. Justin Brock) and aheilberger@whitewater-wi.gov (Det. Anthony Heilberger). Anonymous tips may be shared using the P3Tips app.

Police also issued an reminder about the state’s Safe Haven for Newsborns law that allows parents to relinquish custody of newborns anonymously and confidentially. Babies 72 hours old and young may be surrendered to a law enforcement officer, emergency medical services technician, or hospital staffer with no legal repercussions.
