‘Brake-Checking’ Leads to Fatal Shooting in Tennessee Walmart Parking Lot

A 22-year-old woman shot and killed a man in a Walmart parking lot outside Nashville, Tennessee, on Saturday, allegedly after a road-rage incident on Andrew Jackson Parkway.

Metro Nashville Police said 38-year-old Tristan Walker died at the scene, and the suspected shooter remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to WKRN.

Police said they were called to the scene in Hermitage shortly before 2 p.m. on Saturday. Walker’s girlfriend, who was in the car with him, told investigators that the woman in the other car was tail-gating them. The other woman, however, said that Walker “brake-checked” her, which she said she did to him in return.

Both cars left the parkway and stopped in the Walmart parking lot. Walker reportedly got out of his car and walked toward the other vehicle, and the women fired a single shot, striking Walker in the chest.

Officers recovered her handgun from the dashboard of her car. She was taken to police headquarters for an interview and was released pending further investigation.

Detectives said they would hand over the results to the District Attorney’s Office for possible charges.
