Grandmom Watches as Daughter Stabs and Kills Screaming 4-Year-Old Son, Wrapped in Blanket: Police

A Texas woman was arrested on Monday for allegedly killing her 4-year-old son in an attack that was reportedly witnessed by the victim’s grandmother.

On Monday, Mary Johnson called Athens police claiming she believed her daughter, Monica Figueroa, had harmed her son, Grayson Hurt. Investigators later learned that Figueroa had fatally stabbed Hurt a day prior — and that Johnson witnessed Figueroa on top of a rolled-up blanket that she was cutting with a wood-handle knife, KLTV reported.

Johnson reportedly heard screaming before Figueroa cut up the blanket, but the screaming stopped. Figueroa allegedly threatened Johnson and told her to leave, which she obliged. When Johnson returned to Figueroa’s home the following day she found the child dead, according to KLTV.

The news outlet reported that emergency crews who responded to the home found Hurt deceased and partially covered with a blanket.

KYTX reported that Figueroa confessed to killing her son during questioning. Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse explained that the victim was the only child in the home with Figueroa as she does not have custody of her other children.

Figueroa was charged with capital murder while Johnson was charged with endangering a child. Johnson’s bail was set at $250,000.
