Volunteers Help Search for Elderly Ohio Woman Who Disappeared Last Week

Ohio police are asking for help from the public in their search for an elderly woman who vanished last week.

Susan Taylor 76, disappeared from her 23-acre property in Thompson early Friday, according to the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office. She did not have her phone or other personal belongings and did not drive away.

Officials asked volunteers to join them Wednesday morning, and hundreds did. They’re searching a large wooded area on and around Taylor’s property, WJW reports.

“It’s going to be all on foot and it’s pretty dense woods and muddy,” said Sheriff Scott Hildenbrand, “We want to be well organized and safe.”

An initial search included dive teams, which looked at a pond on the Taylor property.

Officials say the missing woman is “sharp” and “able-bodied,” and they don’t believe it’s a case of an elderly person wandering off.

“We just don’t know (what happened to her), and we’re not ruling anything out,” Hildenbrand said, although he stopped short of saying investigators suspected foul play.

On its Facebook page, the sheriff’s office listed several areas where they’d like to see video footage and asked anyone who has such footage to contact them.
