Parents Charged With Murder in Death of Baby Boy With Skull Fracture, Broken Ribs

A months-long investigation into the death of a 3-month-old baby boy ended Tuesday after with the arrest of the child’s parents.

Illinois State Police said that Logan Hutchings and Sophia Kelly, both 21, have been charged with first-degree murder with the June 14, 2022, death of their son, who was brought to a hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, two days earlier, according to WPSD.

ISP said they were called in to investigate by the Pinckneyville Police Department and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services on June 12, when the infant was admitted to the hospital and medical personnel discovered he had a skull fracture and several broken ribs.

Prior to being hospitalized, the baby was in the care of Hutchings and Kelly, his parents, at their home in Pinckneyville, Illinois.

The two face three counts each of first degree murder and are being held at the Washington County Jail on a $1 million bond each.
