‘Cult Mom’ Trial: Court Shown Graphic Photos of Slain J.J. and Tylee Vallow

On Monday, Idaho prosecutors showed jurors pictures of Lori Daybell Vallow’s slain son and daughter — who were reportedly found on her husband’s property in 2020, nine months after their disappearances.

According to East Idaho News, prosecutor Lindsey Blake described how Joshua Vallow, 7, was found before showing an image of the boy’s arm wrapped in duct tape. She also showed a picture of a black plastic bag, wrapped in more plastic, which had a cut in it.

Prosecutors believe Vallow Daybell’s 16-year-old daughter, Tylee Ryan, was dismembered and burned before being buried on Chad Daybell’s property along with Joshua.

“You will hear it described as a mass of bone and tissue. That’s what was left of this beautiful young woman. The defendant’s daughter. Her DNA was found on a pick ax and shovel later located in a shed on Chad’s property,” Blake said.

East Idaho News reported that Blake also showed jurors a picture of Tammy Daybell’s hands post-mortem. Tammy Daybell is Chad Daybell’s first wife whom Chad and Daybell Vallow are accused of killing in 2019.

Blake commented, “Tammy had a life insurance policy. Lori wanted Chad all to herself. Tammy’s gone.”

Vallow Daybell said she was with Melanie Gibb, David Warwick, or Chad Daybell when her son and daughter died in her brother’s apartment in Rexburg, Idaho. Vallow Daybell allegedly said she was at her residence, also in Rexburg.

Vallow Daybell claimed she was in Hawaii when Tammy Daybell was killed at her husband’s home in Salem, Indiana. Vallow Daybell stated she was with two other people at the time.

Chad Daybell is facing the same charges but will stand trial separately.

Vallow Daybell — who is believed to have been involved in a so-called doomsday cult  — allegedly told a friend that her children had become zombies and the only way to exorcise their bodies of evil spirits was to kill them.

Vallow Daybell is also charged in Arizona with conspiracy to commit murder for the death of her first husband, Charles Vallow, who was fatally shot by Vallow Daybell’s brother in 2019.

Vallow Daybell underwent psychiatric treatment before she was deemed fit to stand trial. She is not facing the death penalty. Cameras are not allowed in the courtroom per a court order.

The trial continues.
