Couple Arrested in Shooting Death of Security Guard Who Tried to Handle Line-Cutting Dispute

On Saturday, Illinois police arrested a couple in connection with Saturday’s shooting death of a liquor store security guard.

WDIV reported that Daryll Straughter, 48, was working at Athens Liquor store in Detroit when an argument transpired between customers because someone cut in line. Suspect Travis Irving, 33, allegedly brandished a handgun and shot Straughter in the chest as Straughter tried to defuse the situation.

Straughter died at a hospital. According to WJBK, Kay Christian, 34, helped Irving flee the scene and concealed the murder weapon in her bra.

Police arrested the pair on the same day of the deadly shooting. They were arraigned on Tuesday.

Irving, who was remanded to jail, was charged with first-degree murder while Christian was charged with accessory after the fact. Christian’s bond was set at $50,000.
