Detroit Neurosurgeon Shot Dead, Wrapped in Sheet in His Attic

Detroit police are investigating after a respected neurosurgeon was found dead over the weekend from a gunshot wound.

Investigators conducting a wellness check for Devon Hoover found the doctor’s body wrapped in a sheet in the attic of his Boston Boulevard mansion Sunday night, WJBK reported.

His car was found abandoned at a separate location, police said.

Sources told WXYZ that police made the wellness check when Hoover failed to show for a family party. He had been shot in the head, the sources said.

While investigators initially said Hoover’s death could have been from a domestic situation, by Tuesday they had backed away and said they had no information the shooting was targeted.

Hoover, 53, specialized in neck and back disorders at Ascension St. John Medical Center. A statement from Ascension Michigan said he “was a dedicated and well respected member of the Ascension Michigan family and will be greatly missed by our community.”

No arrests have been made, and it’s not clear if police have any suspects in mind.
