Mom Injects 9-month-old Baby With Mystery Substance at Hospital, Leading to Cardiac Arrest: Police

An Ohio woman was arrested last week for allegedly injecting her 9-month-old daughter with an unknown substance at a hospital.

On Friday, Columbus police responded to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where the baby was being treated. Hospital staff told cops that the baby’s parents were in the room with the mother, Stephanie Whitley, 26, who injected her with a syringe, according to The Columbus Dispatch.

The baby was admitted into the intensive care unit, where she reportedly went into cardiac arrest and received CPR.

Police have not disclosed what substance was injected into the infant. Reports indicated that the infant remained in critical care.

Whitley was arraigned on Friday on assault charges. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 15. The Columbus Dispatch reported that Whitley’s husband has not been criminally charged.
