Alabama Parents Charged With Murder in Death of 3-Month-Old Boy

A 3-month-old boy died Thursday at Children’s of Alabama from injuries sustained on Monday, and his parents have been charged with murder.

Jameela Biggs, 23, and Antonio Martin, 36, were initially charged with aggravated child abuse on Tuesday when they were unable to provide a reasonable explanation for the infants extensive injuries, which included multiple skull fractures.

Biggs and Martin admitted they were the only people in contact with the child when the injuries took place.

Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Capt. Jack Kennedy said the boy was just shy of his 3-month birthday, which would have come on Saturday, AL.com reported.

The unresponsive baby was brought to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa at about 7 p.m. on Monday, Kennedy said, then transferred to the children’s hospital in Birmingham.

Doctors there told investigators that the baby’s injuries were consistent with intentional physical abuse. The infant was put on life support until his death on Thursday.

Biggs and Martin are being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where their charges were upgraded after the baby’s death.
