Elementary School Principal Failed to Report Son for Sexually Abusing 5-Year-Old Girl

An elementary school principal in Pennsylvania was charged on Monday for failing to report claims that his adult son had sexually abused a child.

Knoch Primary School principal Gregory Mandalas,49, was placed on paid administrative leave nearly a year after his son, Matthew Mandalas, 19, was charged with inappropriately touching a 5-year-old girl. The Butler Eagle reported that the victim’s parents contacted Gregory Mandalas twice in August 2022 about their daughter’s allegations.

Matthew Mandalas allegedly touched the 5-year-old’s vagina and had her touch his penis. Matthew Mandalas was arrested weeks after the victim’s parents contacted Gregory Mandalas, but as a school principal, he was legally required to report it to authorities.

Knoch School District superintendent David Foley said they do not believe the victim is a student in their district.

Matthew Mandalas was charged with felony corruption of minors and misdemeanor indecent assault, while his father was charged with willfully failing to report child abuse as a mandated reporter.

According to reports, police are expected to hold a news conference regarding the latest charges.
