Suspected Killer of Utah Radio Host Extradited From Mexico

A man suspected of fatally shooting radio talk show host Gaby Ramos in 2021 has been extradited to Utah from Mexico to stand trial.

Manuel Omar Burciaga-Perea, 36, arrived in Utah on Friday after more than a year of international efforts to return him. He has been charged with aggravated murder, aggravated assault, and domestic violence in the presence of a child, according to the Taylorsville Police Department.

Ramos, 38, had at one time been engaged to Burciaga-Perea, KSL reported.

Police say Burciaga-Perea shot Ramos, whose real name is Gabriela Sifuentes Castilla, seven times in the chest, arm, and head on October 17, 2021, at her sister’s home in Taylorville, KTVX reported. After the shooting, he fled to his home in Chihuahua, Mexico, and efforts to bring him into custody began.

He was finally arrested last Thanksgiving and has been held in Mexico City until US Marshals escorted him back to Utah last week.

Taylorsville Police Chief Brady Cottam said that multiple federal and state agencies as well as Mexican agencies worked together to bring the suspect to Utah.

He has been booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
