Nesting Village Swan is Killed, Then Eaten. 3 Teens Say They Thought it Was a Large Duck.

Three people allegedly took a swan and four baby swans from a New York pond on Monday, resulting in their arrests.

Eman Hussan, 18, along with a 16 and 17-year-old, are accused of taking the swans from Manlius Swan Pond. Though the babies, called cygnets, were found in good health, a source told The Post-Standard that Faye — the adult swan — was eaten by one of the suspects’ family members.

After the teens allegedly jumped a fence surrounding the pond, they pinned the nesting adult swan and decapitated it. Manlius police Sgt. Ken Hatter said the trio believed the swan was a “very large duck,” according to The Post-Standard.

Hatter said the three suspects did not kill Faye out of hunger. The news outlet reported that one of them had a hunting license.

Police also said that two of Faye’s babies were found at a Shop City Plaza in Salina while the other two were recovered from a residence in Syracuse. One of the teens allegedly claimed that he took two of the baby swans to work with him at the plaza and brought the remaining two home to keep as pets.

Hassan and the two teens were charged with third-degree grand larceny second-degree criminal mischief, fifth-degree conspiracy, and third-degree criminal trespass. Officials have not publicly named the two teens, presumably due to their age.
